Rachel Sermanni - Pablo’s City

I had the privilege of seeing Rachel play in a tiny, intimate theatre in Bristol last night. I’d been meaning to catch a gig of hers for a long time but she lives waaaay up in Scotland and although this might not look very far on a map to our North American followers but it is inconceivably far if you’re me. So catching her in my nearest city was amazing, and my gosh was it beautiful!

I met her at the gig and before she played I asked if she would play Pablo’s City and she seemed really grateful that I requested it and added it to her set-list. It was perfect, even though not having the honky-tonk trumpet solo apparently threw her off a bit!

I was transported while she sang. This is part of her EP called The Bothy Sessions where she and a few musical friends walked three miles through the woods to get to a bothy, which she explained last night is a kind of wooden cabin-shelter; they camped out there for a few days and recorded this wonderful little album. Keep an ear out for this Celtic princess!
