Fenster - Oh Canyon

I have no idea how Fenster got into my music library but they’ve been there since July. Every time Oh Canyon would come on I’d just think, you know I really like that song. I still think that to this day but I’ve branched out to listening to their entire album. Their debut album, Bones, promises more of the experimental lo-fi indie pop with instrumentation ranging from “stuff like guitars, shovels, malfunctioning circuits, drums and humans to make pop songs”. If an outside sound interfered with their recording they included it and worked around it.

I love this interview with them because not only do their lyrics drip with dark humor but their personalities are saturated as well. If you listen to this song closely you’ll realize that no matter how upbeat it is the lyrics are all about schadenfreude. In the interview they compare it to having a party while watching you suffer. They got their band name when a window fell on Weihl’s head while recording this album (in 8 days). Fenster literally means window in German.
