Storytime! The year is 2005. Max is a melodramatic teenager just creeping out of his goth/all black everything phase. His outlook on life is improving slowly but his IRL friend count is not. He wakes up every morning, preparing to drudge through the day by picking out an outfit for school. He walks to the bus stop, annoyed by almost everything but hey… at least it’s only “almost everything” now. The day is as boring and lonely as ever. He comes home, watches TV or something and goes to sleep. He wakes up the next morning, prepares himself while music videos on VH1 play in the background. Enter: Daniel Powter

Powter’s Bad Day was inescapable. It was the biggest single of ‘06 and voted the #1 One-hit wonder of the noughties by Billboard. Usually these songs that get replayed over and over and over ad nauseum are, well… nauseating. Don’t play Hey Ya, Laffy Taffy, or Lips of an Angel around me or I might punch hurl. For some reason, Daniel Powter’s Bad Day didn’t end up as one of those “ugh” songs and I manage to still enjoy it in spite of it’s status as an overplayed hit. I even actually let it play when it appears on shuffle playlists.

I’m not sure how everyone will react to this one. A lot of you will probably refuse to play it because you’ve heard it enough times to last a lifetime it’ll earworm it’s way into your brain all over again. Hopefully it’s not too awful a choice and you’ll forgive me. I mean. What else is this week for?

I guess that does it for Guilty Pleasure Week. For some reason my fellow panelists seemed to think I’d post something absolutely crazy but… where would they get that idea?
