Wicked (OCR) - Defying Gravity

Okay, lets get this over with. I love musicals. Always have, always will and I’ve always loved the soundtracks. In a lot of cases I know all the words before I’ve seen the shows. Albums are a lot more fulfilling when at the end of them you’ve listened to an entire story. My collection has Chicago, Spring Awakening, Avenue Q, Hairspray, West Side Story, Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Lion King, A Chorus Line, Phantom of the Opera, Sweeney Todd, Nightmare Before Christmas, Wicked and more. All of which I’ve either seen the movie or the actual play (three times for Phantom). I’m not even embarrassed about some of these. Avenue Q is one of the funniest musicals I’ve ever seen. Spring Awakening has an edgy modern rock sound for being based off a play that was banned when it was written in 1890. Hairspray is set in my hometown. Chicago is classic as well as West Side and Phantom. There’s definitely a time and place to listen to musicals/admit that you do. I guess now’s my time to own up.

I chose Defying Gravity because I still get chills when Idina Menzel hits that end note. Also Wicked has a lot of overall themes of sisterhood as well as a couple Glee covers, making it that much more embarrassing for me. Altogether, Wicked is a phenomenal musical (that I’ve seen twice) and would recommend to anyone but you won’t ever find me busting this song out in a group of friends… besides that one time it came on shuffle.
