Calvin Harris - Thinking About You feat. Ayah Marar

When I was a kid, I used to listen to Open House Party with John Garabedian on the radio every Saturday night. I imagined growing up and going to a nightclub and experiencing the “big dramatic moment in the doorway” and having the night of my life. Eventually the idea of big thumpa thumpa nightclubs kind of soured on me and so I’ve never gone to one. I also never turn on the radio nowadays (although the name “John Garabedian” still manages to give me a chuckle). The thing is… any time I’m driving at night, I feel like dance music is the only option… which brings me to Calvin Harris.

Harris’ most recent album, 18 Months, has been an excellent night driving soundtrack since it dropped last month. A good fraction of songs on the album are singles the Scottish DJ has worked with other artists to create and were massively popular long before 18 Months was even announced (Rihanna’s We Found Love and Kelis’ Bounce for example). Thankfully, the entire album is great and Harris’ talent shines even on his own (the original single release of Feel So Close from 2011 has a ridiculous play count in my iTunes library).

I’ve been a fan of Calvin Harris since his 2007 album, I Created Disco. I choose to believe that that album was meant to be extremely ironic because I doubt he created disco, gets all the girls or that there were that many things acceptable in the 80’s.

Yes, I have been waiting 5 years to make that joke to a large audience. See you next week!
