Siouxsie And The Banshees - Spellbound

What makes a timeless song? Words, riffs and melodies aren’t entirely responsible; it’s the atmosphere of the song. Spellbound, for instance: as the picking of the guitar enters and Siouxsie’s voice joins with a gentle ring of a tambourine, I find myself in 1981, gothic, post-punk London. It sometimes takes me to a classic episode of Top of the Pops featuring Siouxsie and The Banshees. Other times, to the end of an emotional episode of True Blood.
It doesn’t matter to what emotion state, nostalgic location, HBO series or mental fascination a piece of music takes us, if it can get us there then that is a great song.
