Earl Sweatshirt - Chum

(Due to election coverage I sort of forgot to post this until now)

It’s 2012. Two candidates have squared off in one of the most heated political contests in recent memory, there’s a new Halo game out, and Earl is free. Earl Sweatshirt that is. After the young phenom spent time at a youth camp in Samoa which inspired the phrase “Free Earl,” he’s back to rapping, and just released his second track since his return this past February. While we don’t quite know if this track will be making an appearance on his next album, it’s still a standout, and deeply personal as well. His return marked a shift in attitude towards his music. He expressed a desire to move away from the shock rap feel, and after hearing the results, I give it my seal of approval. He was well aware that he might be losing fans over this near-reinvention, but even in that scenario he’ll likely gain many more. He’s cool. collected, introspective, but relentless on Chum. The kid can just straight up rap. No matter how you feel about the new feel, that one isn’t up for debate.
