Peter Sarstedt - Where Do You Go To My Lovely

Whilst wandering down the cobbled streets of Paris this week I had this song in my thoughts. Apart from the French-style accordion throughout, I believe it was finding ourselves on Boulevard San Michel that reminded me of this perfect love song.

It is thought that Sarstedt wrote this about Marie Claire; throughout he is listing all the whims that fill her time as a perfectly glamorous, sort-after young woman, yet asks what it is she thinks about in her rare moments alone. Although I find the lyrics so wonderfully descriptive and lovely I still find the words in the chorus funny because they sound ever so slightly seedy.

He sent you a racehorse for Christmas
And you keep it just for fun, for a laugh
